Save your holidays with better Christmas carols

By DESIREE QUINONES-TERRENCE

Caroling around Christmastime is our highest proclamation for holiday mood. The carols bring us safely back to glimpses of our childhood, those special moments of our lives. Holiday concerts, masses and spectacles, with impressive productions featuring voices, choirs and orchestras, take place in cities everywhere, and people are ready to be festive and jolly. Christmas is the season for everyone. But these Winter Wonderlands, and that triangle, are everywhere up to the point you see nightmares about it. Who isn't tired of the same songs year after year, as they are repeated over and over for weeks in synthesized forms, following you to the mall, the street, your gift shopping, grocery store, car radio, post office, and yes, even the gym.

If this is your experience, you need to reset yourself with some new songs for your holiday life this year. Jazz vocalists Rigmor Gustafsson, Eeppi Ursin, Sanni Orasmaa, Theo Bleckmann and others have sung christmas songs with a bright and groovy large orchestra. They offer holiday with positive globalism, curiosity and lots of dedication. The tone is warm and joyous, but in contrast to many over-commercial offerings, these artists bring you substance and quality. Songs are featured from Ireland, England, some of our own Alfred Burt carols, and several from Scandinavia. After hearing this, I've had it with Jingle Bells.

Oh, did I say something about old and worn songs made good? My favorite beyond all is the jazzy version of "The Little Drummer Boy" featuring trumpets and trombones with a rhythmically creative performance. This music may not be merely enjoyable as a musical experience, it may save your holidays.
